About Specialty Dentistry
In-House Specialists for Any Need
Some dental problems call for more than general care. Smolyar Dental is one of the few Newton area practices with an in-house endodontist and oral surgeon on staff, so specialty treatment stays within the practice instead of sending you out to a provider you’ve never met.
Root canal therapy is performed by Dr. Ronit Smolyar, a Boston Magazine Top Dentist and Tufts-trained endodontist. Oral surgery is handled by Dr. Jeffrey Reitzel. Because both specialists work alongside Dr. Smolyar, complex cases are planned and executed with a level of coordination that referral-based practices can’t match.

Common Questions
-
Our endodontist and oral surgeon work inside the same Newton practice as Dr. Smolyar, so your records, imaging, and treatment plan stay in one place. There's no gap between a referral and a first appointment, and every provider involved in your case already knows your history.
-
In most cases, no. Root canal therapy is performed on-site by Dr. Ronit Smolyar, and oral surgery is handled on-site by Dr. Jeffrey Reitzel, so specialty treatment can typically be completed within our Newton office.
-
Yes. Nitrous oxide, oral sedation, and IV sedation are all available for root canal therapy, oral surgery, and other specialty procedures, depending on the complexity of your case and your comfort level.
-
Dr. Smolyar evaluates your condition during an exam and determines whether general treatment is sufficient or whether your case would benefit from endodontic or surgical expertise. If specialty care is needed, it's coordinated internally rather than requiring an outside referral.
